Ella van Poucke (cello)
Begin the new season with Chopin, the favorite composer of artist in residence Caspar Vos! Together with cellist Ella van Poucke, he shines his light on Chopin's compelling Cello Sonata. The Vienna Chamber Symphony takes you to the romantic Vienna of Schubert, Brahms and Bruckner. Besides picturesque palaces and the unbeatable Sachertorte, Vienna is above all the city of music. This year, the music world is extensively celebrating the bicentennial of Anton Bruckner's birth. The Vienna Chamber Symphony will perform three beloved movements from his Third, Fourth and Seventh Symphonies. The Viennese ensemble completes the evening with an atmospheric Impromptu by Schubert and the dashing Liebesliederwalzer by Bruckner's contemporary and townsman Johannes Brahms.

Take a unique time travel to the Vienna of 1813 with master guitarist Izhar Elias, proud winner of the Dutch Music Prize, and the PuraCorda String Quartet. In that year, Beethoven's compelling Seventh Symphony - yes, the one with that legendary Allegretto - sounded for the first time. None other than Italian guitar virtuoso Mauro Giuliani was a cellist in Beethoven's orchestra that night. Giuliani was celebrating great success at the time with his Second Guitar Concerto. Izhar Elias and the PuraCorda String Quartet bring both masterpieces to life on period instruments, including a famous 1812 Guadagnini guitar. Together with the renowned Belgian violinist Stephen Waarts, Elisabeth brings three romantic works from the Viennese chamber music repertoire, or in other words, small-scale classical music with an opulent aura. This is particularly true of Brahms' First Violin Sonata, op. 78. Caspar Vos - Chopin, Liszt, Mompou - World Pianists
Caspar Vos, our artist in residence, has a special connection with Chopin and Liszt, two composers no pianist can ignore. At the grand piano, Caspar shares his love of Chopin's First Ballade and the Fantasie in f, op. 49. He also plays Liszt's moving Benediction de Dieu dans la solitude, "one of the most beautiful pieces I know," according to the pianist. The program also explores Caspar's love of folk-inspired classical music. Works by Fazil Say, Mompou and Constantinidis take you on a musical tour of Turkey, Spain and Greece.
