Wals in Es, op. 18, "Grande Valse brillante"
Anna Federova (piano)
The festival could not be more festive than with this famous waltz by Chopin. Everybody's heard the play. Isn't it on the concert stage, or in cartoons or TV commercials
Klarinetkwintet in A, KV 581
Thomas Carroll (cello) Eivind Ringstad (altviool) Anny Chen (viool) Linus Roth (viool) Dionysis Grammenos (klarinet)
  • I. Allegro
Few wind instruments mix as beautifully with the sound of string instruments as the clarinet. Mozart was one of the first to find out. No wonder his 'Clarinet Quintet' belongs to the most beautiful classical music. Last year the piece again scored high in the 'Hart
Polonaise in As, op. 53, 'Heroïsche'
Borys Fedorov (piano)
Chopin's polonaises are much more than just Polish dances. Chopin added his own style: virtuoso, grand and compelling. The piece owes its nickname 'Heroic' to its heroic character. Chopin wrote the piece in Vienna in 1833, but the music seems to refer to the simultaneous revolution in Poland.
Oekraïense melodie
Alexander Abayev (viool) Anna Fedorova (piano)
With a melancholic melody by the Ukrainian composer Myroslav Skoryk, Anna Fedorova and violinist Alexander Abayev take you to the music of their native country
Pianotrio in c (1878)
Ella van Poucke (cello) Eldbjørg Hemsing (viool) Julien Quentin (piano)
In 1883 Grieg had started a piano trio, but the work did not float. He only got the slow middle part on paper. Grieg's Dutch colleague and good friend Julius Röntgen was nevertheless enthusiastic. He wrote to Grieg's wife Nina: "It's really a beautiful piece.... So much solemnity expresses itself... It can exist on its own and in no way gives the impression of being just a fragment"
Ouverture op Hebreeuwse thema's, op. 34
Benedict Kloeckner (cello) Georgy Kovalev (altviool) Anny Chen (viool) Alexander Abayev (viool) Nikola Meeuwsen (piano) Dionysis Grammenos (klarinet)
Prokofiev wrote his 'Overture on Hebrew themes' for the Zimro Ensemble, which, like him, made a tour of the United States in 1919. Simeon Bellison, clarinettist of the ensemble, gave Prokofiev a list of Jewish folk songs, the origin of which has remained unclear until now. The references to the Klezmer, on the other hand, give the 'Overture' an extra Jewish touch!
Encore
Benedict Kloeckner (cello) Anna Fedorova (piano)
A concert gift should preferably be light-footed and virtuoso. Jérôme Decros took this as the starting point for his 'Encore'. A true tour de force for the musicians!

In 1890 Tchaikovsky had withdrawn to the city of Florence for a few months to work on his opera 'Woman of Spades'. As a by-product he wrote the string sextet 'Souvenir de Florence'. A reminder of an inspiring summer in one of the most beautiful cities in Italy

Who thinks about Italy, thinks about sun and picturesque landscapes. Tchaikovsky was so impressed by the city of Florence that he devoted an entire piece to it. It became the sunny ‘Souvenir de Florence’. There is no better way to kick off the International Chamber Music Festival Ede 2018![/en]
