Mourning music for Brahms' deceased mother
Teunis van der Zwart tells us about what makes Brahms' Horn Trio so special: "It is a very personal work. It was the first music he composed after the death of his mother. But despite the boundless melancholy, hope and light can also be heard through it." The best part is that you can hear it in the slow part. "Here you can almost hear Brahms crying. At the same time the national anthem 'There's a house over there in the fields' sounds, which he learned from his mother as a child"
The Horn Trio of Ligeti
Brahms' 'Horn Trio' is a lonely highlight in chamber music for horn. Brahms, who played the horn himself in his youth, understood the instrument like no other. Teunis van der Zwart tells: "The level of the music is so high that no one dared to burn their fingers on it". It was only well into the twentieth century that the Hungarian composer György Ligeti (1923-2006) ventured to compose a Horn Trio as well. This masterpiece is also on the programme in the Edesche Concert Hall.
Severin von Eckardstein and Franzika Hölscher
Let the romantic sounds of the horn take you on Saturday, November 24th. Severin von Eckardstein, Teunis van der Zwart and Franziska Hölscher form a dream combination that can be heard together in Ede for the first time!
Teunis van der Zwart about the privilege of dealing with music on a daily basis:
"What could be nicer than bringing a little joy into people's lives? What I find most important is to share pleasure and joy. That people leave the concert hall a little happier than they came in."

Teunis van der Zwart
How do you become one of the best hornists in the Netherlands? For Teunis van der Zwart it was not a predetermined trajectory. "It came my way," he told the Edesche Concert Hall. That path led Teunis to a brilliant solo career. Van der Zwart is also solo horn player in important orchestras, such as the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century. He also teaches at the conservatories of Amsterdam and The Hague.
