Around Johann Sebastian Bach

Whoever says Ton Koopman, says Bach. Few musicians are so at home in Bach's music as organist and harpsichordist Ton Koopman. Experience this unique greatness from the world of early music, together with two musical faithfuls of the first hour: harpsichordist Tini Mathot and recorder player Reine-Marie Verhagen. Together they can be heard in two of Bach's most beloved pieces; the 'Pastoral' BWV 590 and the 'Trio Sonata' BWV 525 in a version for harpsichord and recorder. In addition to music by the greatest composer in the history of music, there is also music from the immediate surroundings of Bach. Enjoy, for example, the 'Concert for two harpsichords' by Bach's eldest son Wilhelm Friedemann.

Ton Koopman about Bach:
"For me, he's the number one in music history. At Bach you find a balance between feeling and reason. He can give you a heartbeat with a certain harmony - really you think: how is it possible - but at the same time he's a crazy architect. It's unbelievable how his music works."
(Read the interview with Ton Koopman.)

Georg Philipp Telemann

The other composer on the programme next to Bach is Georg Philipp Telemann. Koopman has also been dedicating himself successfully to his music for decades. Van Telemann sounds three concerts for recorder and two harpsichords. Moreover, Reine-Marie Verhagen can be heard as a soloist in two of Telemann's 'Fantasies' for recorder solo.

Ton Koopman, Tini Mathot and Reine-Marie Verhagen

Apart from being a conductor and organist, Ton Koopman can also be found on the concert stage with his wife Tini Mathot. Together they perform regularly and perform numerous known and unknown works. Together with Reine-Marie Verhagen they could be heard on the major international stages, such as the Wiener Musikverein, the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Chatelet Theatre in Paris.
