Elgar - O happy eyes

Vaughan Williams - Silence and music

Queen Victoria's England

Vocal ensemble Quink takes you to the England of Queen Victoria, to the time of Charles Dickens and the generous evening dresses you often see in costume dramas. The vocal music of that time is just as sumptuous and sensitive. The program bears the romantic title 'Music, When Soft Voices Die' and performs along composers from the English top such as Elgar, Bridge and Vaughan Williams. But entirely in Quink's style there is another side. "After the break, we'll bring a lighter repertoire. Relating folk music from England, the Netherlands and Israel, music with a wink. The program must be balanced, just like life itself!"

Kees Jan de Koning about the program:
"The special thing about the pieces we sing is that they are also beautiful lyrics; high quality poems set to music by the best English composers. We take the audience on a heartwarming journey past lost loves and gentle death."
(Read the interview with Kees Jan de Koning)

Quink

Vocal ensemble Quink was founded in 1978 by five students of the Amsterdam Conservatory. From the beginning, the singers were to be heard at the major festivals and the ensemble quickly gained name recognition. Moreover, Quink regularly collaborated with important Dutch composers, including Daan Manneke. Quink recorded several pieces, such as his 'Pseaume 121' on CD.

Vocal ensemble Quink consists of:

  • Kees Jan de Koning, bass baritone
  • Elsbeth Gerritsen, mezzo-soprano
  • Harry van Berne, tenor
  • Marjon String, soprano
