Piano Quartet Corneille - Schubert, Schumann, Fauré

Strijktrio in Bes, D. 471
Georgy Kovalev (altviool) Ella van Poucke (cello) Noé Inui (viool)
Is this Schubert or Mozart? You may wonder this when you hear the first notes of Schubert's String Trio in B flat, as Schubert is so close to his idol Mozart. As a young man Schubert was deeply impressed by Mozart's music and this is clearly reflected in this one-movement work
PAUZE
Pianokwartet nr. 2 in A, op. 26
Vassilis Varvaresos (piano) Georgy Kovalev (altviool) Ella van Poucke (cello) Noé Inui (viool)
  • I. Allegro non troppo
  • II. Poco Adagio
  • III. Scherzo: Poco Allegro
  • IV. Finale: Allegro
A piano quartet as a business card. This applied almost literally to Brahms' Second Piano Quartet, op. 26. He arrived in Vienna in 1861 as an up-and-coming supertalent. In order to interest the Viennese in his music, the piece is full of references to the Viennese music culture of the time. The first sounds of the piece seem to be a tribute to Franz Schubert. The tender slow movement is a romantic night-song. In the robust finale you can hear fragments of the Roma music that was immensely popular in Brahms' day
