Alessandro Stradella could be called the musical Caravaggio of the Baroque. He was as famous for his music as he was for his infamous walk of life. Much of his restless nature can be heard in many of his whimsical pieces

There is something special about Bach's Six Sonatas for harpsichord and violin (BWV 1014-1019). In such works, Bach's colleagues often chose to give the solo instrument the main role with support from accompanying instruments. Bach's violin sonatas, on the other hand, are actually trio sonatas in which the three parts (violin, right hand and left hand of the harpsichord part) are totally equivalent to each other
Sonate voor viool en b.c. in d, op. 5, nr. 12, 'La Folia'
Fantasticus
Corelli's violin sonata "La Folia" is one of the best known of the Baroque period. Corelli based the piece on an older melody that spread from Spain throughout Europe. He was not the only one, incidentally. In the past centuries no less than 150 composers wrote pieces on 'La Folia'. Among them are such greats as J.S. and C.Ph.E. Bach, Liszt, Nielsen and Rachmaninov.
Lamento sopra la dolorosa perdita della Real Maestà di Fernando IV Ré di Romani
Fantasticus
A "lamento" is often a plaintive sounding piece composed of descending lines. This Lamento by Froberger, on the other hand, is composed of ascending movements. A secret wish of the composer that the young deceased King Ferdinand IV of Hungary might be in heaven
