Quartetto di Cremona - Schubert's 'Rosamunde' - String Quartets
Saturday 8 October 2022, 20:00
Schubert wrote one of the most famous string quartets ever with his "Rosamunde" (1824). Why are listeners still moved by it after two hundred years? Is it the epic beginning that immediately draws you into the piece? Or is it that bittersweet melancholy that lies over the entire piece? Like so many of Schubert's instrumental pieces, he based it on his vocal music. The famous melody from the slow movement comes directly from Schubert's opera Rosamunde. The Italian Quartetto di Cremona knows how to do this. This top international ensemble juxtaposes Schubert's Rosamunde quartet with the string quartets of two Italian opera giants: Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini
