Animato Quartet - Mozart, Schubert, Bartók - String Quartets

Strijkkwartet in Bes, KV 589
Animato Kwartet
  • I. Allegro
  • II. Larghetto
  • III. Menuetto. Moderato
  • IV. Allegro assai
By 1789, Mozart was at the height of his powers, but constantly had money notes. To impress the cello-playing King Friedrich Wilhelm II, Mozart composed a series of new string quartets. In these "Prussian Quartets," although the cello is given a starring role, the much-coveted appointment did not materialize, and Mozart still had to sell his music for a pittance.
Strijkkwartet nr. 3, Sz.85
Animato Kwartet
  • I. Prima parte: Moderato
  • II. Seconda parte: Allegro
  • III. Ricapitulazione della prima parte: Moderato
  • IV. Coda: Allegro molto
After two more or less traditional string quartets, you can only really hear Bartók's own voice in his Third String Quartet: classical tradition gives way to Hungarian folk music. Every note breathes folklore, enhanced by special playing manner such as the glide from one tone to the next.
PAUZE
Strijkkwartet nr. 15 in G, D 887
Animato Kwartet
  • I. Allegro molto moderato
  • II. Andante un poco moto
  • III. Scherzo. Allegro vivace
  • IV. Allegro assai
Schubert climbs the Mount Everest of the string quartet with his last quartet, D 887. Music full of contrasting moods and atmospheres.

The Animato Quartet will give you an evening full of Viennese flair and Hungarian spirit. You will hear Mozart and Schubert at their peak with their late quartets. In Mozart's String Quartet KV 589, the cello plays the leading role, probably written with the Prussian King Frederick William II in mind. Schubert, with his monumental last String Quartet D. 887, broke the boundaries of the string quartet of the time. And Bartók? Like Schubert, he left the beaten track with his Third String Quartet on the way to new vistas. Be transported to unprecedented heights by the award-winning Animato Quartet, winner of the Kersjes Prize 2023!
