Long summer nights

When you think of Scandinavia, you think of long summer nights. Where the sun doesn't set and a mysterious evening light reminds us of old folk tales. No wonder that it was precisely in the rugged north that the breathtaking landscapes were grateful subjects for the already hyper-romantic nineteenth-century composers. The Swede Wilhelm Stenhammer took the melancholic atmosphere of late summer nights as a starting point for his eponymous atmospheric piano suite. And then Robert Schumann... Although he was not a Scandinavian, in his whimsical Phantasiestücke dark night visions and feverish dreams pass the listener by

Ronald Brautigam

For over thirty years, world pianist Ronald Brautigam has been one of the leading and versatile Dutch pianists. He is just as at home on an eighteenth-century fortepiano as on a modern concert grand piano. In the Edesche Concert Hall he undoubtedly feels like a fish in the water behind the imposing Bösendorfer Imperial. No wonder Brautigam chose pieces that stand out extremely well on this instrument

"I can make something out of it on any piano."
"It's become a Scandinavian program. For example, I love the music of Carl Nielsen, who was born 150 years ago".
(Interview Ronald Brautigam, read this interview. )
