Cesar Franck's Violin Sonata

With his Violin Sonata, César Franck composed a musical drama without words. Just as opera heroes are exposed to all sorts of moods, the constantly varied main melody forms the starting point for a colourful sequence of emotions, ranging from fierce passion to loving tenderness. Here he followed his great example Richard Wagner, who also let melodies reappear in his operas, depending on the atmosphere of the story.

Famous opera classics on violin and piano

For opera, you don't just have to go to the theatre. The concert stage also offers plenty of possibilities, such as this recital with arrangements of famous opera hits for violin and piano. Enjoy the sensual love music from Wagner's 'Tristan und Isolde', adapted by film composer Franz Waxman. Or listen to the Fantasy at the opera Faust by the French composer Charles Gounod (famous for his Ave Maria). Franz Liszt in turn arranged several parts of the opera 'Tannhäuser' by his son-in-law Richard Wagner

Listen to beautiful pieces from the famous operas of Wagner and Gounod. Tristan and Isolde by Wagner and a fantasy on Gounod's Faust. César Franck's dramatic Violin Sonata sounds just as bloodcurdling. After the first performance of this piece Franck's name buzzed through Europe. Violinist and concertmaster of the North Netherlands Orchestra Marlene Hemmer and pianist Jochem Geene will give a beautiful performance in the Edesche Concertzaal
