Choral nr. 3
Jaap Zwart
César Franck's Third Choral was the last composition he completed. The piece immediately raised questions, because did Francks use a real chorale melody? Franck himself composed one that appears throughout the piece (right at the beginning after the restless opening). Franck's Third Choral ends in an enormous climax, indeed with the notes of his own 'chorale melody'
Sombere muziek over Psalm 103: 8, 'Gelijk het gras is ons kortstondig leven'
Jaap Zwart
Jan Zwart's 'Sombre music' is actually not so gloomy at all. Listen how the work slowly blossoms, until it appears in the middle of the psalm melody.

Jaap Zwart is in line with the famous Black organists. As the third generation, he wants to uphold that tradition. That is why music by his grandfather Jan Zwart features prominently on the programme. He also plays music by Jan Albert van Eyken and Willem Mudde: two other examples from the famous Dutch organ culture
