Schubert, Fauré and Ravel
Artist in residence Hannes Lover concludes the season with a piano recital around Ravel and Gabriel Fauré's late piano works. "The latter are very pure and serene, but beneath the surface there are feelings," he says in an interview. Properties that also go very well with Schubert's Pianosonate in a, D 845. This work, too, sounds peaceful at first sight, but under the surface it is constantly brewing. Schubert wrote to his parents about this sonata: "Many listeners assure me that when I play this sonata, the keys seem to sing under my fingers" Hannes Lover concludes the concert with Ravel's 'Tombeau de Couperin', an in memoriam in six volumes for Ravel's fallen friends in the First World War.
Hannes Lover
Since Hannes Lover finished as a finalist at the famous Queen Elisabeth Competition (2010) no one can ignore him anymore. In 2012 he was awarded the Edison Classical Debut Prize and internationally he can also count the biggest halls on his stage. He also won the Dutch Music Prize in 2016. The prestigious British newspaper The Guardian qualifies Lovers game as 'subdued and intense'. This puts him in the tradition of such greats as András Schiff and Alfred Brendel, with whom Lover also took masterclasses.

What does music mean for Hannes Lover? "Music is so incredibly captivating and fascinating. It transcends everydayness and can unlock worlds of feeling and emotion. The traditional composing of fugues and canons is clever, but how a composer manages to bring a phrase to life is sublime. That combination of craftsmanship and inspiration produces magical moments."
