  • I. Allegro vivace
  • II. Andante, più tosto allegretto
  • III. Allegro piacevole
With well-meaning amateur musicians Beethoven was still able to get along. With the entertaining chamber music that appeared on the market in his time, Beethoven had rather little. Many amateur pianists must have been shocked by the spicy piano parts in the Violin Sonatas. 12. However, a Leipzig reviewer wrote: "There are always pianists who like to play the archaic, what one might call contrary"
Vioolsonate in A, op. 30, nr. 1
Hannes Minnaar (piano) Isabelle van Keulen (viool)
  • I. Allegro
  • II. Adagio molto espressivo
  • III. Allegretto con variazioni
Beethoven was often there to make a financial dash out of political upheavals. That didn't always turn out to be as successful. When the brand-new czar Alexander I visited Vienna in 1802, Beethoven asked if he could perform his three violin sonatas. 30 to the new czar. Beethoven got permission, but the agreed hundred ducats were not paid by the Czar. It was not until twelve years later, during the Congress of Vienna, that Beethoven managed with a trick to get hold of the overdue ducats

Vioolsonate in A, op. 47, 'Kreutzer'
Hannes Minnaar (piano) Isabelle van Keulen (viool)
  • I. Adagio sostenuto – Presto
  • II. Andante con variazioni
  • III. Presto
The 'Kreutzer Sonata' is undoubtedly one of Beethoven's most famous violin sonatas. Not only because of the music, the piece was a thankful source of inspiration for later composers and writers. The famous Russian writer Lev Tolstoy took the 'Kreutzer-Sonate' as the starting point for his famous novel of the same name. This novel again inspired composer Léos Janácek to write his 'Kreutze-Sonate', which in turn plays an important role in Margriet de Moor's novel 'The Kreutzersonate'.
