Maria João Pires about Julien Libeer

Julien Libeer is the star pupil of master pianist Maria João Pires. Together they could be heard on the big concert stages of the Netherlands last year. In the Edesche Concert Hall Libeer has the Bösendorfer Imperial for himself in refined music by Schubert and Chopin. Enjoy this master pianist in the making, who has already been called "visionary and innovative" by the press. The biggest compliment comes from Pires himself. She calls Libeer "the complete musician, who at all times combines a thorough knowledge of music, a solid intellect and an infallible instinct for the unspeakable"

"Pianist Maria João Pires has become my musical grandmother
From Pires Julien Libeer learned that music is extremely personal. He says, "With a trained ear, you can tell from the way someone plays a Beethoven sonata, for example, what kind of person that person is. What's he doing? "Why does he make music?

Sunny Schubert

Of the twelve piano sonatas Schubert wrote, the Sonata in G, D 894 is undoubtedly his most sunny. None other than Robert Schumann called the sonata Schubert's "most perfect in form and content". Unfortunately, the work was soon overshadowed by Beethoven's sonatas, despite frantic marketing efforts by the publisher to get the piece to appeal to a wider audience. It was not until well into the twentieth century that this masterpiece was rediscovered, together with Schubert's other piano sonatas. Since then, the work has been the focus of attention. In this concert you will hear the masterful interpretation of Julien Libeer.

Singing at the Bösendorfer Imperial
Almost all compositions on the program have to do with the song. Schubert made himself immortal with his six hundred songs. Franz Liszt arranged some of them for piano. In his Nocturnes Chopin refers to the famous Italian bel canto, while in his Barcarolle it is about yet another kind of song repertoire. Curious about more backgrounds to this concert?
