Mozart's "Eine kleine Nachtmusik

Serenade in G, KV 525, ‘Eine kleine Nachtmusik’
Symphonie Atlantique
  • I. Allegro
  • II. Romanze. Andante
  • III. Menuetto. Allegretto
  • IV. Rondo. Allegro
Enjoy Mozart's sunniest composition. From the very first sounds you hum along in your mind and that was exactly what Mozart wanted. Although we don't know for what occasion he composed the music, serenades often listened to festive gatherings. And 'Eine kleine Nachtmusik' certainly sounds festive!
Strijkkwartet nr. 3 in Es, op 21
Symphonie Atlantique
  • I. Adagio molto - Allegro ma non troppo
  • II. Adagio molto cantabile
  • III. Scherzo. Presto semptre leggero
  • IV. Finale. Con fuoco ma non troppo presto
Symphonie Atlantique pays homage to Johannes Verhulst. This Dutch composer, born in 1816, was world-famous in his time. Mendelssohn was impressed by Verhulst's music, as was Robert Schumann. "This witty, gifted artist leaves happy memories in the hearts of many people," Schumann wrote when Verhulst left Leipzig. His 'Third String Quartet' is one of his best pieces. Listen to a well-kept secret from Dutch music history
PAUZE
Strijkkwartet nr. 6 in f, op. 80
Symphonie Atlantique
  • I. Allegro vivace assai
  • II. Allegro assai
  • III. Adagio
  • IV. Finale. Allegro molto
As with Mozart, with Mendelssohn one composition after another flowed from his pen. His contemporaries therefore also called him 'the Mozart of the nineteenth century'. Mendelssohn's dramatic 'Sixth String Quartet' is surrounded by mysteries. The otherwise optimistic Mendelssohn struck a completely different note in this piece. Was it an in memoriam for his deceased sister, or did the composer feel his own end approaching?
