Tulipa Consort Johannette Zomer (sopraan)
  • Vivat in pace
  • Transit aetas
Juditha triumphans (in full Judith overcomes the barbarians of Holofernes), is the only one of the four oratorios preserved from Vivaldi. The Latin libretto of Iacopo Cassetti is based on the book Judith from the Old Testament. It tells of the occupation of the Israeli city of Bethulia by the Assyrian troops of King Nebuchadnezzar under army commander Holofernes. To save the city, the young Jewish widow Judith goes to the hostile camp, gets Holofernes drunk, hits his head off with his own sword and takes it to her city. The Assyrians are fleeing and Bethulia is liberated

"O qui coeli terraeque serenitas" RV 631 is one of the three of Vivaldi's surviving solo motets and was probably created during Vivaldi's stay in Rome in 1723 or 1724. In this piece, the believer prays to be freed from the transitory pleasures of the earth and to exchange them for eternal heavenly peace and riches

  • Umbrae carae
Sinfonia Al Santo Sepolcro, RV 169
Tulipa Consort,
  • I. Adagio molto
  • II. Allegro ma poco
Throughout the Catholic world, the Holy Week, the week before Easter, was meditated on.. about the tomb of Christ. This follows the example of the traditional pilgrims who went from far and wide to Jerusalem to pray at the Holy Sepulchre. Vivaldi dedicated two small-scale works to the theme. With the Sinfonia in b 'Al Santo Sepolcro' he has permeated his notes with great sadness
Uit: Laudate pueri in c, RV 600
Tulipa Consort Johannette Zomer (sopraan)
  • I. Allegro
  • II. Largo
  • IV. Andante
  • V. Largo
  • VI. Presto
  • VIII. Largo
  • IX. Allegro
  • X. Allegro
The 'Laudate pueri' in c RV 600 is an extensive setting of psalm 113 (112) from around 1715, a text that Vivaldi would later set to music twice more. Remarkable is the dark key c minor and the many shadowy moments in the work, while the text is predominantly joyful and jubilant. The piece is interspersed with plastic word paintings.

Everyone knows Antonio Vivaldi from his Four Seasons. But this priest from Venice also wrote deeply religious church music. Soprano Johannette Summer sings beautiful spiritual works, such as the 'Laudate pueri' and two arias from his oratorio 'Juditha Triumphans'. The versatile chamber orchestra Tulipa Consort plays a number of picturesque instrumental pieces
