Vries - Improvisations

Sietze de VriesThe

beautiful organ of the Edesche Concert Hall comes to life under the hands of organist Sietze de Vries. Not only does he play beautiful works by Louis Vierne and Anthon van der Horst, but a Postlude by the Englishman Charles Villers Stanford is also on the programme. Music that connects seamlessly with Mendelssohn's 'Second Organ Sonata'. Of course, Sietze de Vries is also an acclaimed improviser

"Music works just like language"
Sietze de Vries always attunes his concert programmes to the organ he plays. This is also the case in the Edesche Concert Hall. "The Ypma organ is a romantic organ, so that largely determines the choice of program... After the break, we only improvise. "It is obvious that I use the theme 'suffering time' for this," says the organist. "Ideas from the audience are welcome!"

Bach through the eyes of Anthon van der Horst

Anthon van der Horst was one of the best-known conductors of the Dutch Bach Society. No wonder Bach also plays a big one in his own music. Van der Horst based his 'Variazioni' on one of Bach's most beautiful Sinfonias, belonging to the Easter cantata 'Christ lag in Todesbanden' BWV 4. The music inspired Van der Horst to create a series of colourful variations on this moving sinfonia. The seven variations have everything to do with the chorale text of 'Christ lay in Todesbands'
