Program:

Mussorgsky - Painting exhibition (arr.)

Debussy - String quartet in (arr.)

Ligeti - Six Bagatelles

Mussorgsky's Painting Exhibition

In this phenomenal piece Mussorgsky paints with music. He made this world-famous composition with paintings by a befriended painter. Those pieces are certainly exciting. We hear a wild witch, a hut on chicken legs and music about a mysterious castle. Often the work can be heard in Ravel's orchestral version, but tonight you will hear a special arrangement for five wind instruments: flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn.

String quartet by Debussy for wind quintet

In addition to Mussorgsky's painting exhibition, the 'String Quartet' by Claude Debussy in a beautiful arrangement for wind quintet, and the 'Six Bagatelles' by the Hungarian György Ligeti are also on the programme. "We like to play sophisticated adaptations of classical masterpieces", bassoonist Bram van Sambeek tells us

For several years they were invited separately to perform at the Orlando Festival, before they decided in 2008 to form a quintet and name themselves after the beloved Festival

Bram van Sambeek: "I didn't like playing soccer, I wanted to save the environment"
With his fondness for the bassoon, Bram van Sambeek was certainly not a modeluber. "I had rather pronounced preferences at all. I didn't like playing soccer and war. Rather, I wanted to save the environment and as a twelve-year-old, I was sticking paper on the street in the afternoon." He still cares about the environment. "Sustainability has become such an eroded concept. I believe more in doing an act." "
