Lavinia Meijer

Lavinia Meijer is one of the best harpists in the world. Whether it's Carnegie Hall or the Viennese Musikverein; wherever she plays, every listener is captivated by her play. The world-famous composer Philip Glass invited her to play his music with him in New York. This collaboration tasted like more, because in 2017 Lavinia will once again join forces with Philip Glass. In the Edesche Concert Hall Lavinia plays a selection from his 'Etudes' as well as music written especially for her by composers. Experience an atmospheric get-together with one of the best harpists in the world!

"At certain times you discover the power of music and what it can do to people"
Lavinia Meijer tells: "I realized that music outside the concert hall has a life of its own. The other day, a young mother told me that she puts her baby to sleep to my music. I always feel particularly honored when my music is dear to people."
(Read the interview with Lavinia Meijer.)

Philip Glass - 'Etudes

The Guardian calls Philip Glass's 'Etudes' "the sound of a lifetime". And indeed, many lines from his by now extensive oeuvre come together in it. Powerful melodies, rhythmic shifts and endless repetitions; it's Glass in full. Lavinia Meijer adapted a number of these etudes for harp, which Glass herself was deeply impressed by. "This kind of adaptation for another instrument really teaches me something new about my own piece. The harp emphasizes other things in the music, in a colour that wasn't there before" and better ambassador than Lavinia Meijer can't get this music. De Volkskrant previously praised Lavinia as a "brilliant glass interpreter".
