Schubert's WinterreiseThere
are few song cycles that have given as much food for thought as Schubert's 'Winterreise'. Interpretations range from political-social criticism to man's search for himself. Like 'Die schöne Müllerin' it is also about love, but 'Winterreise' starts at the moment that love is already over. The lyrics tell how a man flees to other regions after a rejection in the winter cold. Schubert's music closely follows the mood changes in the text, with 'Der Lindenbaum', 'Im Dorfe' and 'Der Leiermann' as absolute highlights.Robert Holl: "Schubert's Winter Break is a journey of life."
Holl thinks you need a certain life experience to be able to sing 'Winterreise'. "And you must have sung other Schubert songs. I did a hundred other Schubert songs first. You need to develop spiritually towards "Winter Travel."
