Denis Kozhukhin - Gershwin's Rhapsody in blue - World Pianists

Suite nr. 7 in g, HWV 432
Denis Kozhukhin
  • I. Ouverture. Largo - Presto - Largo
  • II. Andante
  • III. Allegro
  • IV. Sarabande
  • V. Gigue
  • VI. Passacaille
Does the last part of this Suite sound familiar to you? This is possible, because the Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen made a much-played arrangement for violin and viola. Händel himself gave this particle a second life in one of his famous Concerts for organ and orchestra
3 Intermezzi, op. 117
Denis Kozhukhin
  • I. Andante moderato
  • II. Andante non troppo e con molto espressione
  • III. Andante con moto
Brahms called his "Intermezzi", on. 117 "Mirror songs of my torments." Together with the three other collections of 'Klavierstücke' that he wrote in the years before his death, these 'Intermezzi' are among Brahms' last piano pieces. The music sounds as if the composer is looking back on his - almost - completed life
Out of Doors, Sz. 81
Denis Kozhukhin
  • I. Met trommels en fluiten
  • II. Barcarolla
  • III. Musettes
  • IV. Nachtmuziek
  • V. De jacht
As sunken as Brahms' 'Intermezzi' may sound, so full of life is Bartók's suite 'Out of Doors'. With flutes and drums Bartók takes you into nature in the first part. In the fourth movement 'Night Music', Bartók conjures up the most mysterious sounds from the grand piano: the imitation of nocturnal sounds during a Hungarian summer.
Préludes, Boek 1
Denis Kozhukhin
  • I. Danseuses de Delphes
  • II. Voiles
  • III. Le vent dans la plaine
  • IV. Les sons et les parfums tournent dans l'air du soir
  • V. Les collines d'Anacapri
  • VI. Des pas sur la neige
  • VII. Ce qu'a vu le vent d'Ouest
  • VIII. La fille aux cheveux de lin
  • IX. La sérénade interrompue
  • X. Cathédrale engloutie
  • XI. La danse de Puck
  • XII. Minstrels
With Bach, a prelude often precedes a fugue; Debussy turned the prelude into a stand-alone piece. What is special is that he did not write the titles at the top, but at the bottom of the score: the music comes first and is not intended as the sounding of a particular image.
PAUZE
Rhapsody in Blue
Denis Kozhukhin
Are jazz and classical together? Gershwin proved with his 'Rhapsody in Blue' that it is possible. The piece sounds like a classical piano concerto, but is full of blues notes and other winks to jazz. Denis Kozhukhin plays the version for piano solo
